Commercial Operation on March 11, 2008
Durham College District Energy is a natural gas fired 2.4 MW combined heat and power facility that will be located at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario. In addition to behind the meter electrical production, hot water will be provided to Durham College for space heating and domestic use.
The CHP site is located immediately adjacent to the existing Durham College high voltage substation. The plant consists of a single natural gas fired, low NOx reciprocating engine-generator set.
A single heat recovery heat exchanger is also included for the recovery of thermal energy from engine exhaust. Noise abatement measures inside the plant will ensure sound levels are kept within established limits.
